Vice President of the Republic, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has charged the youth of the country to refuse to entertain the mentality of impossibilities in their minds as they strive for the top.
In his Special Guest of Honour’s address at the 2019 International Youth Day Celebration under the auspices of the National Youth Authority (NYA), at the Anagkazo Bible School in Mampong, Akuapem, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia urged the youthful gathering, and by extension all youth of Ghana, to re-orient their minds and accept the fact that they can reach any global height they desire.
“Let us not underestimate our abilities. You can reach for the skies. This is why I keep saying that we should never say this is impossible. It has not yet been made possible and you may be the one to make it possible. Let us not think about impossibilities. Anything is possible by the Grace of God and with hard work,” the Vice President said.
Roll Out of Free WiFi in Schools
Vice President noted in his remarks noted that government’s agenda of ensuring access to the internet through free Wi-Fi in Seniors High Schools and universities is on course.
“We have moved very quickly on this and by the Grace of God, we will start the first roll-out of the free Wi-Fi in one University and three (3)Senior High Schools. We will start that first roll out this year and hopefully within the next two years, we would have covered all tertiary as well as Senior High Schools,” the Vice President noted.
CEO of NYA
Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Emmanuel Sin-Nyet Asigri, in his welcome remarks encouraged the youth of the country to be script writers of their destinies and feature themselves as the stars that show the way towards a brighter future. He indicated that the Youth Authority is rolling out a month’s voluntary youth camp project that will seek to encourage volunteerism amongst young people with the aim of leading the young generation to contribute to the development of their respective communities.
Motivation for IYD 2019
The theme of International Youth Day 2019, ‘Transforming Education’, highlights efforts to make education more relevant, equitable and inclusive for all youth, including efforts by the youth themselves.
Rooted in Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all,” the International Youth Day 2019, will examine how governments, young people and youth-led and youth-focused organizations, as well as other stakeholders, are transforming education and how these efforts are contributing to the achievement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
