The former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains South, Joseph Appiah Boateng has won back the Parliamentary Candidate slot of the NDC.
Joseph Appiah Boateng who was going for his second term had his candidature withdrawn few months to the 2016 election by the Nationa Executives of the party over allegations of criminality premised on a purported Interpol report which Eric Osei Owusu was substituted as Parliamentary candidate.
Having been cleared of all alleged criminal Charges Joseph Appiah resurfaced to contest the 2019 primaries.
He polled 352 votes while his closed contenders Mark Oliver Kevor and Incumbent Member of Parliament Eric Osei Owusu polled 227 and 260 votes respectively. Though Bismark Ofosu Amponsah and Emmanuel Mbeebi withdrew from the race, they polled one vote and zero votes respectively.
The Affram Plains South Election was one of the hottest as far as the NDC Parliamentary Primaries is concerned.
The election was initially being contested by Five candidates but two -Emmanuel Mbeebi and Bismark Owusu Amponsah withdrawn a day before the election leaving the three main contenders -Mark Oliver Kevor immediate past Eastern Regional Secretary, Eric Osei Owusu -incumbent MP and Joseph Appiah Boateng -a former MP.
Voting started 8:10am with long queues though some delegates were still not released having been camped the previous day.Attempt by former National Communication Director of the party Solomon Nkansah to campaign among delegates in the queue sparked a brief misunderstanding which was swiftly resolved.
At about 2pm, a total of 842 delegates out of the 864 exepected have voted .
Tension was high as anxiety grew among the candidates and their supporters as they await the clock to hit 5pm for counting .The three main contenders held their hands to pledge peace and unity after the Regional Organizer Hackman Kabore has called on all factions to desist from casting aspersions and insinuations after declaration.
Hundreds of supporters and delegates massed up around the demarcated area for the counting process to catch a glimpse of the Sorting and actual
counting.
There was wild jubilation after the declaration.
The two close contenders Mark Oliver Kevor and Eric Osei Owusu accepted defeat and congratulated the winner before the final declaration of by EC.
