A Non-Governmental Agency (NGO), Global Brigades have officially commissioned a 10,000pounds water project at Immuna in the Central Region.

The Project is in partnership with the Lions Club UK District 105M.

Commissioning the project, Mr. Benson Adjei the Country Director for Global Brigades, said his outfit works closely with the Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL) to provide deprived communities with portable drinking water.

“To combat common illnesses such as diarrhea, parasites and cholera, we also work with communities, the Ghana Water Company, Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) and other partners to construct pour-flush toilets, hand-washing stations and potable water systems”, he explained.

He again indicated that Global Brigades is currently working in the Central Region to provide residents with Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compounds which is also one of their key mandates.

On the issue of maintenance, Mr. Benson Adjei said his team has had serious talks with the assembly man to appoint an active and dedicated resident to supervise and monitor activities at the borehole.

He said such projects needs intense monitoring especially when the culture of maintenance is usually not the habit of some people.

Also expressing excitement about the project, Edga Balinia Adda, Programs Manager in charge of Monitoring and Evaluation said the team has a lot in the pipeline for communities in the Central Region.

He said all projects include community member involvement and believes that the empowerment and involvement of local leaders is the only way programs will continue to be maintained.

He reiterated that the involvement of local leaders also gives the residents a sense of belonging and as such entreated the local leaders to wholeheartedly support the project.

Ben Erker, Director of Impact & Evaluation, Global Brigades also called on residents to support the team and provide them with the needed assistance when the need arises.

He said the team also has community banks established through Global Brigades, to provide families and small businesses in the community with access to savings accounts, small loans and financial literacy.
