The Nigerian Foreign Affairs Ministry has announced plans to evacuate Nigerians in South Africa following the brutal assault of Nigerian nationals in the renewed Xenophobic attacks.
In a statement issued last night by the spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs, Ferdinand Nwonye said Air Peace Airlines has offered free flights to Nigerians willing to return home from South Africa as the xenophobic attacks in that country continue unabated.
Air Peace volunteered to send an aircraft from Friday, September 6, to evacuate Nigerians who wish to return to Nigeria free of charge.
The statement read: “The general public is hereby advised to inform their relatives in South Africa to take advantage of this laudable gesture.
”Interested Nigerians are therefore advised to liaise with the high commission of Nigeria in Pretoria and the Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg for further necessary arrangement.“
Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and their businesses in South Africa have been in the news in the last few days.
The development forced the federal government to boycott the World Economic forum underway in SA which began on Wednesday, September 4.
