The Ashanti Regional branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the party remains resolute in its determination towards securing the target of 1 million votes in the Ashanti region in the upcoming 2016 elections.

The Regional Secretary of the party, Raymond Tandoh has explained that the NDC is more energized in its bid to garner more votes for Mahama with the inclusion of a number of bigwigs of the party joining the NDC primary race.

“The caliber of people contesting is promising to realizing our targets set for the party in the region- We are adding six more seats to the four we have already; we are getting 10 seats from Ashanti region this time round,” he stated in an interview with Accra-based Okay FM.

In all, 106 members have filed their papers to contest in the primaries in all the 47 Constituencies.

The number includes 12 women, two former and current Ministers of State, two Deputy Ministers as well as the four incumbent MPs.

The National Democratic Congress’ vetting of its Parliamentary primary aspirants in the Ashanti region has been rescheduled to next week Tuesday, September 29.

Meanwhile, Tandoh has cleared that the party’s Regional Youth Organiser,  Mr Brogya Genfi has not been disqualified as a parliamentary aspirant for the Suame Constituency.

According to him, the information is false because the vetting committee led by Kofi Adams that would assess aspirants in the region had not started its work.
