The Regional Office of the Agric Ministry has warned of the outbreak of African swine fever in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis and the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality.

According to a letter sighted by Kasapafmonline.com from the Regional AGRIC Director and addressed to the Regional Coordinating Council, indicates samples of dead pigs from the affected areas, sent to the National Veterinary Lab for analysis has confirmed positive of swine fever.

It’s unclear how many pigs have been culled in the region following the outbreak, but officials say they are working hard to contain.

Meanwhile, the Regional Agric Directorate has requested the Ministry of Agric to withdraw the pigs supplied by the government under the Rearing for Food and Jobs project and rather be replaced with sheep and goats.
