The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) is demanding a roadmap for the supply of textbooks to every school in Ghana following the new curriculum for KG and Primary schools in the country.

A statement issued by GNECC on Tuesday and signed by the Executive Council Chairman, Kofi Asare raised concerns about why there are no textbooks ready for the new curriculum, but the GES has decided to go ahead and start the implementation of the new curriculum this first term.

“Next to an engaged and prepared teacher is a good and well-designed textbook’. However, the Ghana Publishers Association indicated only last week that they are only now in the process of developing the content of textbooks to be submitted to the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) for review and approval. It is after the approval that the books may be printed for distribution, a process that can take quite some time to be well-executed.” GNECC said in its statement.

“To date, there is no official statement on when textbooks will be available to Basic schools,” the statement noted, thus calling for clear timelines on the distribution of text books.

“This silence on the part of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, the GES and Ministry of Education is unacceptable,” aspects of the statement read.
