On Wednesday, 2nd October 2019, the 2nd edition of ‘Ghana Reads!’ will be held to commemorate the 2019 International Reading Day.

The event, a Festival of Reading, shall be held at the AMA New Complex—Accra City Hall from 10:00 am and is designed to encourage reading among Ghanaians, especially children. It is set to have societal icons and leaders to read with children and among such people include the daughter of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Samia Nkrumah.

Also joining the reading spree is the musician, author and host of the overwhelmingly patronised ‘Taxi Driver Show’ on Zylofon FmBlakk Rasta. The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighter and activistErnesto Yeboah—will also join this all-important festival.

This edition of ‘Ghana Reads!’ organised by Ghana Reads Initiative and e-Ananse Libraries is under the theme “To inform the Blackman, put it in a book”and slogan, ‘Making Reading Fun, Making Reading Our Culture; Ghana, Let’s Read!.

‘Ghana Reads!’ is a community based reading campaign geared at encouraging Ghanaians, especially children & youth, to love reading fiction literature; promoting the reading of Ghanaian fiction literature; bridging the gap between readers and authors/publishers and teaching the skills & importance of reading. It is designed to involve every individual or institution in Ghana and beyondBy this, individuals and institutions are encouraged to be part of the project by attending the event and also by purchasing selected Fiction Literature by a Ghanaian author for libraries in Chorkor, Jamestown, OsuKawukudi and Korle Gonno.

One of the distinctive feature of this edition of ‘Ghana Reads!’ is that it would feature a conversation on how to make reading a cultural practice in Ghana. It would also explore different reading forms such as Read Aloud, Dramatic Reading, Read & Play, Read & Colour, Voices & Acts, Read Chain among others and host Books Exhibition and Sales, Reading clinics/workshops and Reading Competitions. Another interesting package it comes with is the unveiling of e-Ananse Library and an Amphi-Theatre at the new AMA Complex—Accra City Hall.

The Mayor of Accra (Hon. Mohammed AdjeiSowah) would be the Chairman and the former 2ndLady of the Republic of Ghana (Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur), the Special Guest of Honour. The Keynote address would be delivered by Nana KwasiGyan Apenteng
