The President of the Ghana Medical Association(GMA) Dr. Frank Ankobea has revealed that the arrested Medical Doctor who’s said to be the main suspect in the alleged foiled coup plot is not a member of the GMA in good standing.
Dr. Mac-Palm who owns the Citadel Hospital in Alajo, a suburb of Accra together with some two persons were picked up by security personnel in a joint operation on Friday September 20, 2019 during which several arms, explosive devices and ammunition from locations in Accra and [Kpone] Bawaleshie near Dodowa.
Dr. Mac-Palm and his ‘accomplices’ according to a government statement had tried contacting a number of serving military officers to help in the attack
“Surveillance on the activities of the persons involved commenced in June 2018, when Dr. Mac-Palm and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu (“BB” or “ADC”), started organizing a series of meetings at the Next-Door Beach Resort, in Teshie, and other locations in Accra, in furtherance of their objectives.”
“Between June and August 2018, BB, acting for and on behalf of Dr. MacPalm, contacted a number of serving military personnel, and talked them into hatching and executing a plot to obtain weapons, take over key installations, and secure funding for the purpose of taking over the reins of government. These meetings were closely monitored,” the statement explained.
But in an interview, the GMA President Dr. Frank Ankobea who stayed away from commenting on the substantive matter said his checks revealed that Dr. Mac-Palm has failed to renew his membership for the past 5 years.
“We have gone through our records, in 2014 he registered as a member of the GMA at a time the Ghana Medical and Dental Council had issued him license to operate his hospital. But since May 2014, he’s remained a member not in good standing because we’ve not seen him or heard from him since then. He not paid any dues since then as well. What we know is that he’s a member not in good standing.”
