Ghanaian-made short film titled ‘Dark Spot’ earned a special selection at 2019 NDIVA Women’s Film Festival. 

The short film Directed by Sandra Adwoa Essel and Produced by MK Content CEO, Mawuko Kuadzi was one of the many films selected by the committee.

‘Dark Spot’ movie was shown to guests at the NDIVA Women’s Film Festival during the five-day event held at the Alliance Francaise in Accra.

The film, a short story detailing the effects of pornography and masturbation on marriages was first shown at a private screening held at the Kathy Knowles auditorium- Kanda. It features one of Ghana’s most cherished veteran actresses; Akofa Edjeani alongside Sitsofe Tsikor, Daniel Delong and Awudu Adamu Zaaki.

The NDIVA Women’s Film Festival (NWFF), is a film festival that seeks to bring women film-makers and all women in the film production chain together in a space where they can network, collaborate, exhibit their work and celebrate each other.

Synopsis

Biography

Sandra Essel went to Creativeland School of Film and Media Arts; afterwards, she joined MK Content/Casting and has also worked with acclaimed directors such as Clement Kofi Amish (Ghana), Linda Brooke Edith (Ghana). She worked as a script supervisor on the Ghanaian film In 3 Days and the short film Broken Wing. In addition, she was production assistant for the Netflix-BBC project “Black Earth Rising”.

Activities slated for the festival this year included a 5-day workshop in Screenwriting and Direct-ing for women screenwriters and film directors, 3 days of film screenings of selected films large-ly centred around the women and how they experience the world, Panel Discussions and an Awards Ceremony.

The ceremony, being the third edition since its maiden launch run from 30th October to 2nd November this year, 2019, with its main focus on women and the film industry.
