Accra is playing host to the 4th edition of the World Summit of Mayors.
The summit, which took off yesterday is being hosted by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly. Officials say it will focus on shared Economic Empowerment.
Mayors from all over the world are attending, in what organizers say will foster good relations between African mayors and their colleagues from other continents.
In all, over 10, 000 people are attending.
The June 1-3 event is taking place weeks after Accra Mayor, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, won the Best Mayor award at the inaugural Jose Eduardo dos Santos African Best Mayor Award event held in Angola on April 30.
Vanderpuije won in the large cities category and got a cash reward of 200,000 dollars.
