Legal Practitioner, Maurice Ampaw, has called for the streamlining and regularization of prostitution in Ghana.
In an interview with Afia Schwarzeneggar on Aben wo ha on Kasapa 102.3 FM Tuesday Ampaw said although Ghana’s law currently didn’t support that, regularizing it will bring some sanity and orderliness to the trade.
“What we need to do is that, we must identify them and give them in-service training to streamline their services. It is a debate we must take it on.”
Ampaw called on persons engaged in the trade to report issues of harassment to Human Rights activists instead of going to the Police.
“Instead of lodging complaints to the Police on any abuse on you, you can rather solicit the help of a Human Right activist.”
The Accra-based Lawyer also called on the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to intervene in cases of abuse against the prostitutes.
Today, 2nd June, 2015 marks International Sex Workers’ Day.
