Political pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), has said the Inter Party Resistance Against the New Register has the option to go to court, if they’re still opposed to the EC’s decision of compiling a new register ahead of this year’s general elections.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM on Thursday, January 23, 2020, the Convener of the Alliance, David Asante re-echoed ” a new voters register now; nothing can stand in the way of the EC.”

He noted that if the Election Management Body(EMB)in its wisdom believes  that a new electoral roll is the way to go, all  such opposition groups who are resisting it have the right to pursue the matter in court.

“LMVCA we filed a lawsuit in court in the period of two years petitioning the courts to hear about 10 issues brought before it. As i speak with you now, those who were brutalized by the Police,  we are pursuing the matter at the Human Rights courts. We love the courts. We’re law abiding citizens. We pursue matters in the courts to seek justice and redress as part of fine-tuning our electoral processes.

“So we’re perceived hundreds of people poured onto the streets in Kumasi to demonstrate against the compilation of a new register. If the EC in its wisdom believes its important we do it and you don’t understand, go to court and fight it at the law court.”

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi yesterday, a day after the Inter Party Resistance Against the New Register held a demonstration in the region, the Convener of the alliance, Mr David Asante, said the alliance would rally and educate the public on the need to get involved and get registered when the EC started the exercise.

He said it had become necessary for the country to have a new register as the current register still contained names of unqualified people.

He said even though the EC was ordered by the Supreme Court to clean the register of all applicants who used National Health Insurance Scheme card to get registered, “there are still names of people who used health insurance card on the register.

“The health insurance scheme is not limited to Ghanaians only but all residents in Ghana so holding that card does not make you a Ghanaian,” he said.
