Scores of residents within fishing communities in the Sekondi Takoradi metropolis are asking the National Identification Authority(NIA) undertaking the Ghana card registration to be flexible in the requirements of documents for the exercise.

The residents most of whom are unable to provide the main requirements for the exercise, passport or the birth certificate are turned away from the various centers and are thus unhappy with the exercise although some are accepting the Guarantor alternative others feel they might be left out of the exercise since the issuance of cards are also delaying.

Most of the centers we visited are to rather issue the Ghana cards later in the week, a development many are not happy about.

One major hindrance for many is the generation of a digital address. While some communities are finding a solution to this some youths in some communities are taking advantage of the situation to make some coins.

The NIA’s mass registration exercise in the Western Region will end on the 28th of February.
