The alleged coup plotters on their way out of court

The Attorney General’s Department has hinted that the “Bill of Indictment” necessary for the commencement of committal proceedings at the District Court against nine (9) out of the ten (10) persons accused of plotting to destabilize the country is ready.

This, according to AG’s department will be presented to Magistrate Rosemond Dodua Agyiri’s Court on February, 20, 2020.

State Attorney

Senior State Attorney, Hilda Craig made the disclosure today February, 13, 2020, when she opposed a third (3rd) bail application by lawyer for the suspected coup plotters, Victor Adawudu, before the Criminal High Court presided over by Justice Patricia Quaison.

In urging the Court to refuse the bail application, the State Attorney indicated that the “Bill of Indictment” for nine out of the ten accused persons is ready and the State will commence the Committal Proceedings on the next adjourned date at the District Court. To this end, she prayed the Court to refuse the bail application.

The Accused Persons

The accused persons in the case of the Republic versus Dr. Fredrick Mac Palm and nine (9) others are Dr. Fredrick Mac Palm (1st Accused person), Donyo Kafui A.K.A Ezor (2nd Accused person), Bright Alan Debrah Ofosu a.k.a Bright Alan Yeboah (3rd Accused person), Col. Samuel Kodzo Gameli (4th Accused person), Gershong Akpah (5th Accused person), W.0.2 Esther Saan Dekuwine (6th Accused person), Cpl. Seidu Abubakari (7th Accused person) , L/Cpl. Ali Solomon (8th Accused person), L/Cpl. Sylvester Akanpewon (9th Accused person) and ACP Benjamin Agordzo (10th Accused Person). They are suspected to have masterminded a fifteen months plot to destabilize the country and possibly take over the government of the Republic.

Discharge of 5th Accused

Hilda Craig in her argument before the Court further disclosed that upon the advice of the Attorney General, charges against Gershong Akpah, the 5th Accused person, will be dropped on the 20th of February 2020 during the anticipated committal hearing at the District Court.

Justice Patricia Quaison, in her ruling on the bail application by the Accused persons noted that since the State has clearly indicated that they are ready to proceed with the committal hearing for the Accused persons and having regard to the circumstances of the case, it is likely that the Accused persons will not make themselves available to stand trial should they be granted bail.

“The bail application is hereby refused” the Court Ruled.

Background

Information about the foiled Coup Plot first came to light in the country on the 23rd of September 2019, when government announced that some person had been arrested after several months of investigations. The accused persons, Dr. Fredrick Mac Palm (1st Accused), Donyo Kafui A.K.A Ezor, Bright Alan Debrah Ofosu a.k.a Bright Alan Yeboah, Col. Samuel Kodzo Gameli, Gershong Akpah, W.0.2 Esther Saan Dekuwine, Cpl. Seidu Abubakari, L/Cpl. Ali Solomon, L/Cpl.
