A Security analyst, Dr. Ishmael Norman has warned of the springing up of more militia groups associated with the secessionist group, Homeland Study Group Foundation(HSGF).

His comment comes in the wake of officers of the Ghana Armed Forces(GAF) having arrested 20 people described as rebels in Dodze in the Volta Region seeking to have the region secede from the Republic of Ghana.

The arrested persons made up of 19 males and 1 female are part of the HSGF.

In December 2019, pictures emerged on social media of a uniformed group supposedly being trained as soldiers at a place called the Western Togoland Training Grounds in the Volta Region.

Monday’s special military operation conducted by officers of the 66 Artillery Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces(GAF) rounded up the recruits undergoing military training in a remote location 10km north of the Volta Regional town of Dodze along Ghana’s border with Togo.

In an interview with Joy FM monitored by Kasapafmonline.com, Dr. Ishmael Norman who’s the President of the Institute for Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies urged government to brace itself to deal with more of such militia groups.

Government has done well in taking the issue seriously and going after them but this is not going to be the end of it. Arrest a group of them and they get more validated and because of that government must get really ready for a much bigger organized and much more sophisticated group.”
