The Supreme Court has dismissed an injunction application intended to block the preparatory construction works on the National Cathedral in Accra.

The application filed by a businessman, Alfred Holme argued that the construction should be halted till the substantive case of whether the land could be given out by the government for a different purpose, rather than what it was purchased for is determined.

The lawyer for the plaintiff, Mr Bright Akwetey argued that stopping the preparatory construction works may prevent any costs to the state if the court was to rule in favour of the plaintiff.

But dismissing the application Tuesday [February 18, 2020], the Supreme Court presided over by the Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah said provisions have been made by the law to deal with such events.

Meanwhile, the preparatory work for the construction of the National Cathedral has started in earnest.
