Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has denied ever using state funds to finance the activities of her NGO 31st December Women’s Movement.

According to her, she did not abuse the office of her husband to siphon state funds for her women empowerment project contrary to speculation.

Speaking at the launch of the 2020 Gold Industrial Awards to recognize the contribution of women in Agric, the former First Lady said the fight against women empowerment is far from over.

“There were times when the Ghanaian population was saying she can do all these because her husband gives her Ghanaians money anyway, it is Ghana’s money. Really! they don’t know the guy, they just don’t know the guy. The first time my executives told me why are we struggling to look for money to buy a machine to start baking, just ask your husband to give us some money, and I was stupid…I actually went to ask him but I didn’t ask him to give me the money because I knew he didn’t have the money. I said can your Minister of Finance give us the money and when we start baking we’ll pay back the money. Then he said really, you’ll pay back the money, then I said yes, then he said then why don’t you go to the bank for money.” Nana Konadu said.
