The Donkorkrom District Police Command has arrested a Fulani herdsman who was part of a five-member kidnapping gang that kidnapped a 20-year-old man.

The suspect, Halidu Sambo,34, has been transferred to the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters assisting with the investigation.

According to facts put out by the police, Abubakar Ibrahim of Tease with Sariki Sambo Iddrisa, the Fulani chief of Donkorkrom, reported to Donkorkrom police that his son Abubakar Yahaya, 20 years, has been kidnapped.

That on 28/02/2020 at about 2300 hours he called his son on his mobile phone, but somebody picked the call and told him they have kidnapped his son at Atensu a village near Tease.

They demanded an amount of GHC 5,000.00 from him for the release of his son. a day after the GHC 5,000.00 ransom was paid, the victim was released.

One suspect Halidu Sambo 34 years, has so far been arrested.

The suspect named the leader of the five-man gang of the kidnappers as “Denji”, about 28 years old.

According to the police, all the kidnappers are of Fulani extraction. The suspect has been brought to the Regional Police headquarters, Koforidua with the Regional CID taking over the investigation.

Police say strenuous efforts will be made to arrest the remaining four suspects for investigation.
