Creative Arts Business and Intellectual Property Consultant, Benjamin Arhin Oduro Jnr. has revealed why Ghanaian gospel artistes are unable to follow up on their copyright infringement cases at court.
Speaking on Kasapa Entertainment Show with Eddie Ray on Kasapa 102.5 Fm last Saturday, he disclosed that most gospel musicians do not pursue their copyrighted cases at court because of the stress they go through to attend court proceedings.
Benjamin Arhin Oduro Jnr aka Bnoskka also stated that for reason that some gospel artistes will also be tagged as ‘unforgiving’ persons they decide not to pursue the case to court.
He said gospel musicians show tolerance and mercy when their songs are used by others because of the message they preach in their songs.
The regular pundit on Kasapa Entertainment also revealed that in general, most copyright infringement cases reported at the Copyright Office are not completely dealt with because of artistes’ unwillingness to follow up.
“Gospel musicians are unable to pursue their copyright infringement cases to court if they are advised to do so by the CopyGhana. Some say they are Christians so there is no need to take court actions on such issues. Others claim the time and stress involved in the court proceedings is the reason they are unable to take actions.” Bnoskka noted
He explained that the importance of copyright is to ensure that performers’ works are protected from any form of infringement.
