Forty(40) health workers at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have been quarantined in Tamale after coming into contact with the 10 ‘arrested’ Guineans who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

Some staff of the hotel where the 10 persons lodged earlier have also been and quarantined.

Additionally, Police personnel who went and picked the patients from the hospital and back to the hotel on the day they were ‘arrested’ have also been quarantined after it emerged they touched the affected persons.

According to the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Said in an interview disclosed that samples have been taken from these persons for testing to ascertain whether they’ve contracted the disease or not.

The ten Gunieans were picked up by security officials for coming into Ghana from Burkina Faso. After their arrest, they were put under quarantine in Tamale where they were all confirmed to be COVID-19 positive after testing.

“Ten (10) of the new cases were among persons who were under mandatory quarantine in Tamale under the direction of the Regional Security Committee of the Northern Region,” the government said.”

They “travelled through Burkina Faso and Togo to Ghana and were picked following intelligence report,” the government says.

The 10 entered the country 12 ago but Ghana’s borders were closed on 22nd March, 2020. It is unclear what their reason is for entering Ghana.
