Parliament has approved a $35 million facility from the World Bank meant to support government’s Emergency Response Efforts against the covid-19 pandemic.
Parliament on Saturday received a request from the Government of Ghana (GoG) to approve an agreement with the World Bank for an amount of $35 million to support Government’s operations in dealing with the coronavirus.
The proposed agreement, which was laid before the House on Saturday, is between the GoG and the International Development Association (IDA), a subsidiary of the World Bank.
The approved fund is earmarked for the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic under a rapid credit facility from the World Bank.
Addressing parliament earlier on Monday, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta said the equivalent of $100 million dollars announced by the President to cushion Ghana’s response programme is available and has been secured.
Meanwhile, the $35 million facility is integrated with the $100 million announced by the government to finance the country’s response to the pandemic.
