A military officer who is part of Security personnel detailed at Lockdown Barrier at Doboro near Nsawam has accidentally shot a motor rider.

The incident occurred on Friday around 8:00am.

It is not clear why the military man shot the rider but an eye witness said,the ridder ignored order to stop when he decided to bypass the barrier and use unapproved route.

The Military Officer in attempt to shoot the tyre of the motorbike to deflate it mistakenly shot the rider.

“I can’t tell exactly why the soldier shot the motor rider but I saw that he refused to stop at the barrier and decided to run away so all that I heard was three gunshots then the rider fell with the motorbike. There was blood all over and has been rushed to Nsawam Government Hospital. The soldier also picked a taxi and followed them to the hospital”.

The motor rider, according to hospital officials, is responding to treatment.

The Nsawam District Police Commander,DSP Marian Adu -Osei has confirmed the incident adding that investigation is ongoing.

This is the third shooting incident involving a military officer in lockdown duties .

A week ago, a policewoman, Lance Corporal Francisca Tenge, who was also on ‘Operation Covid-Safety’ duties at the a checkpoint with a military man was shot at. The incident happened at Tema Newtown.

The Military high command assured investigating the incident.

Ghana has recorded 641 confirmed cases of Coronavirus with 8 deaths and 83 recoveries. Greater Accra, Kasoa and parts of Greater Kumasi are under lockdown for the past three weeks.
