The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George has accused government of supporting the Electoral Commission(EC) in the latter’s flagrant breaches of the law.

He said the resolve of the EC to defy the court order not to hold the said workshop for directors and deputy directors is testament to the fact that the recalcitrance demonstrated by EC has the blessing of the Presidency.

“Take it from me, the Electoral Commission is doing what they’re doing because they have the tacit approval and support from the Flagstaff House. President Akufo-Addo is endorsing the illegality and irresponsibility of the EC. What has happened to the Rule of Law? Jean Mensa cannot do what she’s doing if the Flagstaff House does not approve of the action” he told Journalists after supporters of the NDC besieged the City Escape Hotel to protest against the workshop.

The exercise forms part of the Commission’s preparation towards the compilation of a new voters’ register.

But the lawmaker is considering filing contempt charges against the Electoral Commission (EC) for holding such workshop in his constituency despite a court injunction.

On April 24, the MP secured an injunction, restraining the Electoral Commission from holding the workshop in his constituency.

The ex-parte injunction, granted by the Tema High Court, took effect from Friday, April, 24 to Monday, April 27, 2020.
