Okudzeto Ablakwa Mr Wear Ghana, Oppong Nkrumah

The Chief Executive Officer of Street Fashion Train FoundationMr Benjamin Kojo Mills, popularly known as Mr Wear Ghana has applauded Hon. Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah for creating business opportunities for local fashion designers during the Covid-19 period.

Speaking to Eddie Ray on Kasapa Entertainment, Mr Wear Ghana who advocates for Ghanaians to create more jobs for local dressmakers and tailors said he was impressed to see Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah mobilize dressmakers and tailors living in their constituencies to produce 30,000 nose masks.

Mr Wear Ghana said the Coronavirus has halted so many businesses making others lose their jobs to that effect.

“We are not in normal times and this is really affecting our local dressmakers and tailors. They are not in Business. But there are opportunities at any point in time whenever there is a crisis. The demand for PPE is so high that importation can’t even meet up with it.” Mr Wear Ghana told Eddie Ray

According to him, the initiatives taken by Members of Parliament for North Tongu and Ofoasi-Ayeribi constituencies have reduced unemployment and also promoted their indigenous fashion designers as well.

“I must applaud Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa for taking the initiative to mobilize designers living within his constituency (North Tongu) to produce about 20,000 nose masks and Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who has also taken that initiative. In this time, to me, they are putting money in the pocket of these designers and promoting their indigenous designers as well.” wear Ghana commended the two MPs

He urged other Members of Parliament to emulate same to also help their local fashion designers to boost local production to meet up with the demand for PPEs in their constituencies.

“I know if all MPs emulate this, the local designers living within their respective constituencies will not only make money but it will help boost local production to meet up with the demand.” He told other MPs

North Tongu Latest COVID-19 Initiative: I have mobilized and contracted our local dressmakers and tailors in Juapong, Battor, Mepe and Aveyime to produce 20,000 face masks for free distribution to my beloved constituents.

We are ensuring the 20,000 face mask production is done according to FDA guidelines and with the blessing of our District Health Directorate.

With this initiative, we do not only help prevent coronavirus from entering our constituency, we are also reviving the businesses of our local garment-makers who have taken a big hit due to the restrictions on social and religious gatherings and therefore not many are making new clothes.

I am happy to have spent the day in Juapong where we commenced the free distribution to over a thousand people including the youth, market women, shop owners, welders, commercial drivers and the Juapong District Police Command.

Every town and village will see our free mask distribution caravan in the coming days.

I am most grateful to our talented, hardworking and efficient dressmakers and tailors for making this intervention a success.

Together we shall defeat COVID-19.

Pastors of the North Tongu Local Council of Churches took a decision to join us earlier today on our free distribution of 20,000 locally produced standard face masks in Mepe, Battor, Aveyime and Mafi townships in my beloved constituency.

In what could be described as our own unique COVID-19 church service, we distributed some 1,800 face masks and hand sanitizers while using the opportunity to carry out public education on the marauding virus.

I am truly humbled and profoundly grateful to our spiritual lords for this remarkable partnership.

Together we shall defeat COVID-19.

In Ofoase/Ayirebi we are producing 10,000 face masks for distribution among our constituents. Yesterday, DCE Paul Asamoah and I visited the seamstresses commissioned to do this. I was excited to observe the energy with which they are delivering on their numbers.

Afterwards, we stopped by to encourage workers who are constructing the Oda-Ofoase road. We are impressed with the speed and quality of work so far. Keep it up guys.

We also inspected ongoing work on a new dining hall complex that my office is constructing for students of Ayirebi Senior High School.

But I started my day at Atinka Media Village explaining Govt’s Covid-19 response program.

At 9am today, we shall deliver our last update for this week from the Ministry of Information.
