Polling Station Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Trobu Constituency in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region, are up in arms against the party leadership at the National level over what they say is a planned agenda to approve the incumbent Member of Parliament, Moses Anim, to go unopposed in the upcoming Parliamentary primaries.
The polling station executives contended that the party is intentionally discriminating against their preferred candidate, Lincoln Edward Addo, from challenging the incumbent MP as it’s the case in other Constituencies in the Greater Accra Region.
The polling station executives made their concerns known when they addressed a press conference today,May, 14, 2020 at the Lincoln hotel in Achimota.
Albert Asumadu, one of the polling station executives who addressed the gathering indicated that attempts by the Party, the leadership of the majority caucus in Parliament and other party functionaries, to prevent others from contesting the sitting MP is unfortunate.
“There is only one reason that accounts for the seeming imposition of the MP on the good people of Trobu, and that is, the MP has lost touch with the rank and file of the party in the constituency that is why he is running every type of race within the corridors of both leadership of the majority caucus in Parliament and the Presidency to mislead them for him to go unopposed” Albert Asumadu stated.
He added:”As we speak, several Polling Station Executives who are disappointed by the recommendations made by the Greater Accra Regional vetting committee of the New Patriotic Party for the 2020 parliamentary primaries regarding the ineligibility of Mr. Lincoln Edward Addo, to contest the parliamentary primaries have registered their displeasure
through a petition submitted to the NEC of the NPP.”
He further appealed to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure that a parliamentary contest is held in their Constituency and that whoever even wins same will be given massive support by the Constituency in order to win the parliamentary election in December 2020.
