Some COVID-19 patients in an Isolation Centre in the Ashanti Region have tried to break out of the facility.

The Kumasi South Hospital which is the Ashanti Region’s holding centre recorded two attempts as patients continue to pile pressure on health officials to allow them to leave.

The COVID-19 Case Management Coordinator at the facility, Dr. Angela Druwaa Frimpong told Joy FM that two male patients who attempted to escape gave no reason for their actions.

They tried to use a bed trolley to break the door. Even though the door was broken they couldn’t come out. Sometimes you can understand where their psyche is because you are being kept in a place for a work or two weeks not your usual environment and you don’t have the freedom to go out so you can become a bit stifled.”

Meanwhile, Ghana’s COVID-19 cases have hit 6,486; with 1,951 recoveries.

The Ashanti Region which has so far recorded 988 cases is the second region with the highest case count after the Greater Accra Region which has 4,699 cases.
