Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says Ghana will occupy the enviable spot as the most digital economy in Africa when the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) by the grace of God begins its second term in 2021.

According to him, the implications of digitization for the economy are phenomenal and will increase government revenue several folds.

Speaking after his acclamation of his nomination as President Akufo Addo’s running mate for the December 7 general election at a Special Conference in Accra, Dr. Bawumia stated that the government is on track with respect to the digitization agenda and will ensure the human involvement in most public businesses is eliminated.

Economies work when systems and institutions work. We want to move away from the discretion of individuals to the efficiency of systems and institutions. Economies that depend on the discretion of individuals to get things done are generally inefficient and breed corruption. This is why we have over the last three and the half years start to put in place the digitization of systems and institutions that will drive our march towards the Ghana Beyond Aid.

With digitization I can renew my NHIS membership on my mobile phone or apply for my passport online I don’t have to know anybody. With digitisation government revenues will increase several-fold, you’ll not have to pay a bribe before you get a driver’s license or a birth certificate. The implications of digitization for the economy are phenomenal and by the grace of God Ghana will become the most digitized economy in Africa in our next term in office. We are on track and we are making good progress.”
