Scores of parents and guardians have flocked to Accra Girls’ Senior High School demanding the withdrawal of their wards amidst the panic of coronavirus infections within the school.
Several parents who spoke to Kasapa FM’s Osuani Afrifa said they could not risk allowing their children to stay on while six of the students have been hit with the virus.
“School authorities are not being fair to us. Why are they preventing us from taking our wards home? There is panic all over and it’s only wise that they allow us pick our wards so that when the tension subsides we will bring them. If the worst happens, we’ll not forgive them,” a frustrated parent told Osuani Afrifa.
Meanwhile, students of the school have this morning staged a demonstration on campus calling on the authorities to allow them to go home following the reported outbreak of COVID-19 in the school.
Six students are said to have been infected with coronavirus.
The patients, all students of the school, were isolated at the school’s sickbay on Monday, June 29, 2020, together with some other students who also showed symptoms of COVID-19.
According to reports, six out of eleven students who were tested for the virus tested positive.
Health officials from the Ayawaso East Health directorate on Saturday, July 4, moved the students who tested positive to the Ga East Municipal Hospital for treatment.
The terrified students are demanding that they are allowed to leave the school to prevent them from contracting the deadly disease.
Police have moved to the scene to control the protest by students and calm tension.
