The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) has filed a Criminal Complaint against the MP for Awutu Senya East, Madam Hawa Koomson, for firing a gun at a registration centre at Kasoa in the Central region.

ASEPA, among other things, is demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of Hawa Koomson and her thugs.

ASEPA is also asking for restitution or compensation for all the owners of the motorbikes that were burnt by Hawa Koomson’s thugs and any property that was destroyed in the process of the ensuing violence.

Meanwhile, the Central Regional Police Command is corresponding with Parliament to get clearance for the release of the Awutu Senya East MP, Hawa Koomson for questioning in relation to the alleged violence.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 Fm, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Oppong said the lawmaker has already agreed to cooperate with the Police on investigations set into the case.

“She has already gotten in touch with us that she wants to assist in investigations. However, we want to follow due process and so it’s appropriate we write to parliament to seek the consent of the Speaker so the MP can be allowed to assist in investigations,” she told host Bonohene Baffuor Awuah.

This comes after the Special Initiatives Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson, admitted that she fired a warning shot at the ‘Step to Christ’ polling station.

“I’m a Member of Parliament, I need to protect myself. It was at dawn; my police escort had not started work yet. So, that is the modus operandi I engaged in his absence,” she told Accra-based Adom FM.

In a statement by the EC said such acts during a civil exercise like the Registration of Voters are condemnable and calls on security agencies to investigate the issue as a matter of urgency to bring the perpetrators to book.
