The Ghana Mine Workers Union has challenged claims by ex-workers of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine that they were supposed to be paid 100 percent instead of the 25 percent of their severance package given them.

The ex-workers’ allegation of the company owing them a remaining 75 per cent of their retrenchment package is false, the union in a press statement over the weekend said.

It argued that such claims were baseless since what was negotiated for is 25 per cent of the annual basic salary for each completed year of service and prorated as enshrined in the collective bargaining agreement.

The severance exercise was based on what had been stipulated in the Collective Agreements (CAs) for the branch, professional and managerial staff unions, insisting the package was therefore an agreed rate upon which payment was done accordingly.
