The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan has appealed for more support for victims of Friday night’s inferno at her constituency.
The “Kiosk Estate” at Shiashie in Accra was razed down destroying properties worth Thousands of Ghana cedis while displacing over 600 residents.
She disclosed a fund instituted to shore up the lives of dozens affected by the fire incident has so far accrued GHc20,000, which according to her is woefully inadequate.
“We have provided them with basic needs, food, some clothings and shelter. There is a lot more we can do for them. What I have here cannot support them for long. Some of them, their workplaces, they are hairdressers, dressmakers, everything is gone completely. So I’m appealing even to people beyond this constituency to please come to our aid. Support them; help me support them.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana Fire Service is yet to release details of the cause of the fire.
