Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) John Mahama has urged the people of the Volta Region to turn out in their numbers to check their names when the Electoral Commission begins exhibition of the voters register.

Addressing Chiefs and people of Tsito in the Volta Region as part of his tour of the Volta Region, Ex-President Mahama told the residents that the exhibition of the register is as important as the registration itself for which reason they should be part of it when the exercise commences.

“In compiling the register there could be a mistake and your name might be omitted. If they exhibit the register and you don’t go and check if your name is there if by accident your name is omitted and on election day you go even with your card and your name is not in the register they will not allow you to vote. And so when EC advertises the date for the exhibition I appeal to all of you to leave everything you’re doing and just take a minute to go and look and make sure that your name, image, and photo are in the register so that on 7th December you can come and vote.”

The Electoral Commission (EC) as of Thursday, August 6, 2020 registered a total of 16,663,699 voters.

The old voters register had a total of 16,845,420 registered voters.

The Commission had projected to register 15 million eligible Ghanaians in the 38-day mass registration exercise but exceeded that target after registering 16,663,669.

The registration itself ended on Thursday, August 6, 2020.
