The Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD Joseph Boahen Aidoo has promised to call the contractor in charge of Nkawkaw Abirem Road to order over the delay of work since he was awarded the contract.

This follows a call by the chief of Akause in the Birem North District of Eastern Region Osabarimah Gyasi Boateng Aduako II during a visit to the area by the vice President H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia appealing to government to ensure the contractor shows seriousness over the construction of Nkawkaw Abirem road.

According to him the nature of dust on the road is worrying since work by the contractor is slow affecting the people in the area.

The Chief, however, lambasted the contractor adding that, “we are not interested in watching the beauty of the various equipment parked on-site, we want to see massive work on the road.’’

During the president’s visit to the Eastern Region a few weeks ago, Newmont Ghana, in partnership with the Government of Ghana and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), commissioned the construction of the 41-kilometer road from Nkawkaw to New Abirem Road in the Eastern Region.

The president cut the sod for construction. This initiative is part of its efforts to promote infrastructural development in its host communities and surrounding areas.

Under this partnership, Newmont Ghana will invest US$15 million to construct 16 kilometres of the road while the Government and COCOBOD will fund the rest.

At a Durbar of Chiefs and people in Akuase with the vice president, Osabarimah Gyasi Boateng Aduako expressed worry over the delay of work.
Responding to this, the CEO of COCOBOD Joseph Boahen Aidoo said, COCOBOD is playing a key factor in the project and for that matter, will ensure the contractor is called to order to explain the reason behind delay of work.

According to him, the NPP government will ensure the contractor is back on site for completion of work.

On his part, the Member of Parliament for the area John Osei Frimpong said the Akufo Addo led government has not disappointed the people of Abirem Constituency adding that at least each community has benefited from the national grid.

He also expressed worry over the delay of work but was quick to add that his outfit will always remind the CEO of COCOCBOD to ensure the contractor does the right thing.

The Abirem Constituency launched their campaign team targeting 70% votes in the upcoming 2020 general election.

In 2016, the NPP Presidential Candidate Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo had 20,869 representing 66.72% whiles the NDC Presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama gained 10,144 representing 32.43%.

The Parliamentary Candidate of the NPP John Osei Frimpong won with 19,208 representing 61.00% whiles the NDC Parliamentary Candidate Mavis Ama Frimpong had 12,217 representing 38.80%.

The party expressed confidence that, due to numerous projects established in the area, the constituents will appreciate the NPP with massive votes.
