The Black Stars will lock horns with the Islandic side in a two-legged affair in November to determine who progresses to the group phase of the qualifiers.
The 193rd ranked side booked a date with Ghana after defeating Lesotho on away goals following a 1-1 stalemate at the Setsoto National Stadium in Maseru on Tuesday, the first leg encounter having ended in a 0-0 draw.
The Black Stars, however, are yet to kick a ball in the qualifiers, having drawn a bye in the first rounds.
November’s encounter will be the first ever meeting between the two sides at any level.
While the Black Stars have won four Africa Cup of Nations titles and qualified to three successive Fifa World Cup tournaments between 2006 and 2014, Les Coelecantes are yet to play in a competitive international tournament.
Both legs are expected to be played within the period of November 9 to 17, with the first leg slated forComoros.
Having been present at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the 2010 event in South Africa where they reached the quarter-finals and the Brazil 2014 gathering where they exited at the group stage, the Black Stars will hope to make it a fourth successive appearance in a row with an opening day victory.
Forty teams are expected to battle it out in November in two-legged ties with the winners progressing to the last round of qualifying which is set to have 20 teams divided into five groups of four.
The group winners qualify to the final tournament in Russia.
