The Executive Secretary of Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union Nelson Adubofuor has admonished government to further decentralize the national farmer’s day to communities in order to give recognition to peasant farmers.

Speaking to Ultimate News’ Fatawu Bayaga the Executive Secretary pointed out that, “though the current step is appreciable, more should be done by moving the occasion further down to various communities from the district level to ensure a direct contact with small holder farmers.”

He further recommended that in the course of decentralization, the government should also make sure that the reward is attractive enough to motivate farmers to work relentlessly to shore up production in the country.

“What I can say is that, in the course of decentralization, they should also make sure that the reward remains attractive to farmers to motivate them to work hard on their farms,” he advised.

Mr. Nelson averred that the district level event had the tendency of failing to honour smallholder farmers several of whom live in smaller communities.

Kuapa Kokoo Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union limited (KKFU) formerly Kuapa kokoo farmers union is Ghana’s pioneer and the leading producer of ethical cocoa beans.
