The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won the Sene West Parliamentary elections after a recounting by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The recounting was done after the Wenchi High Court in the Bono Region dismissed a case brought by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) seeking to contest the Sene West Constituency’s Parliamentary elections.

The party’s candidate, Joseph Markay Kuma, sought an injunction against the election results over claims of irregularities with the electoral process although collation of results had not taken place.

But in court on Thursday morning, the Presiding Judge, His Lordship Justice Frederick Nawura, struck out the NPP’s case and directed that the Electoral Commission be allowed to do its work.

The lead lawyers for the NPP were Nana Sekyere Boateng and Nana Obiri Boahen whiles NDC was represented by Kojoga Adawudu and Ofosu Agyare.

After votes in the disputed ballot box were counted, the NDC candidate had 275 while the NPP gathered 148.

In the final results, the NPP obtained 13,100 votes while the NDC garnered 13,116 votes,

The NDC Candidate, Ampofo Twumasi has therefore been declared the winner.

The results bring the current numbers in Parliament to 137 for the NDC and 137 for the NPP with 1 Independent candidate who has opted to sit with the NPP in the chamber.
