Some twelve Niger nationals who entered Ghana through unapproved routes have been seized by Ghana Immigration Service officers by the Hamile Sector Command after they illegally and unlawfully entered Ghana ostensibly to proceed to Kumasi and Koforidua.
The seven (07) adults and five (05) minors were arrested on 31st January 2021.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the migrants were herdsmen heading to the Southern part of Ghana to ply their trade. Their ages ranged between six (06) and fifty (50) years.
The Burkina Faso authorities on the other side of the border facilitated the redirection of the undocumented migrants back to their home country, Niger, through Burkina Faso, where they were transiting.
The Ghana Immigration Service in a statement urged the general public, particularly, the border residents to support us to combat the menace of irregular migration to and from Ghana.
“Inasmuch as the service applauds the good people of Ghana who gives us information, we shall not spare anyone who is caught facilitating activities of irregular migration.
“Aside from the President’s directive on the land border closure, it is an operational function of the Ghana Immigration Service to combat undocumented or prohibited migration to and from Ghana,” the statement added.
