The former Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo has reacted to the detailed account of the Presidency over the circumstances that led to his controversial retirement.
The embattled former Auditor-General responded with a one-word Post on Facebook after a 21-page open letter dated March 19, 2021, signed and issued by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante to CSOs against corruption.
Mr Daniel Domelevo replied “Ludicrous” to the Presidency’s polemic against the former President, John Dramani Mahama for deliberately planting him[Domelevo] to “pursue a particular agenda” in his administration among other allegations.
The Presidency has rejected claims that former Auditor General Daniel Domelevo was hounded out of office because of his work which targeted highly placed public officials.
The Presidency in a 21-page open letter dated March 19, 2021 explained that events leading to the selection of Mr Domelevo were suspicious insisting Mahama had ulterior motives behind that appointment.
“…having lost his mandate to govern, former President Mahama appointed Mr Domelevo to the office, knowing very well that President Akufo-Addo would be sworn into office in a few days, to pursue a particular agenda.”
This comes after the chorus of condemnation by a cross-section of the public including the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Against Corruption that the Presidency and the Audit Service Board unfairly targeted the Auditor-General to his early retirement.

But the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante-Bediatuo, in the 21-page Open letter said Mr Domelevo was appointed by the former NDC administration because of his loyalty to the outgoing President at the time.
“After losing the election, it became necessary for former President Mahama to change his nomination for Auditor-General, with the sole aim of saddling the then-President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, with an Auditor General whose allegiance was to former President Mahama, instead of the nation,”.
Mr. Domelevo was asked to go on retirement by President Akufo-Addo on March 3, 2020 after he returned from a forced leave of 167 days.
