Commercial flight activities are expected to commence at the Ho Airport in the coming weeks following a successful test flight carried by domestic airline operators, African World Airlines on Thursday afternoon.

The Embraer 145 of African World Airlines with 36 passengers on board, landed at the airport at about 1422 hours to an ecstatic environment.

Thursday’s test flight was to assess the status of the airport as African World Airlines prepares to start full commercial operations.

Construction work on the Ho airport project began under the erstwhile John Mahama NDC government in 2015.

The facility however was fully completed in 2017 under the Nana Akufo-Addo administration.

Unfortunately, the $25million US Dollar project since its completion has laid fallow without commercial activities.

But on Thursday, the airport saw the landing and taking off of a commercial flight for the first time.

Captain Kwesi Oteng, is the Chief Operations Officer of African World Airlines and the pilot to have landed the first-ever commercial flight at the Ho airport.

He explained that the landing was safe and added that the facility is fit for purpose.

Speaking to journalists after landing, the Executive Chairman of the African World Airlines, Togbe Afede XIV of the Asogli State indicated that the airport would accelerate economic growth and help expand the tourism sector in the region.

Togbe Afede, a co-pilot on the day, also highlighted plans in place to ensure sustainability in operations and to make the facility economically viable to support the living standards of the people of Ho and the entire nation.

Having witnessed the test flight, the Volta Regional Minister Dr. Archibald Letsa say he could only be thankful to all stakeholders whose efforts brought to the Volta region such a modern-day development.

Dr. Letsa also believes that the airport and its operations would complement greatly the development agenda of the region.

Togbe Kasa III of Ho Ahoe, could neither hide his joy at the sight of commercial flight landing on the soils of the Volta region.

When operations fully start, African World Airlines would be operating commercial flights from Accra-Ho-Accra.

Other Airlines are however, expected to join later and to operate Ho-Kumasi-Tamale.
