Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako says the suspended National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Afoko is to blame for the disciplinary action meted out against him.
According to him, the Chairman’s posture towards the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC)’s consistent invitation thrown to him, caused his suspension from the NPP.
The NEC of the party on Friday by a unanimous decision took a decision to suspend the beleaguered Chairman.
This comes after the National Council of Elders of the NPP petitioned the Disciplinary Committee of the party to sanction Mr Afoko for his conduct which they claim worked against the interest of the party.
Among the charges made again the embattled chairman include, the fact that his conduct and style of leadership was problematic, he held irregular meetings and also took unilateral decisions which caused turmoil in the party.
However speaking on Joy FM’s News analysis programme News File on Saturday, veteran Journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, stated that Mr Afoko could have done himself a lot of good if he had engaged the National Executive Committee in a much better way.
“This was avoidable, I’m sorry but I blame Mr Afoko for this. Why was he not able to appear before the committee in spite of persistent invitation? I hear two lawyers defending him went before the committee, did they go there to challenge the jurisdiction of the committee or they went there to provide excuse for his absence. Afoko should show leadership and discipline by contesting his suspension internally”.
Meanwhile the suspended National Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party Paul Afoko is asking the public to disregard the notice of his suspension by the party.
The Communications director of the NPP Nana Akomea in a statement after a national executive committee (NEC) Friday said Mr Afoko has been suspended following a petition of misconduct against him by the party’s council of elders.
But in a counter statement signed by his spokesperson Nana Yaw Osei, the embattled chairman said the decision by the NEC is not binding on him.
“We want to state in unequivocal terms that the improperly constituted National Disciplinary Committee cannot recommend any indefinite suspension of Mr Afoko to the National Executive Committee whose chairman did not call the meeting that purportedly endorsed the so-called decision of the national disciplinary committee.
“We insist that an improperly called meeting of the NEC cannot legally deliberate on any matter for it to have proper effect of binding on Mr Afoko as the national chair.
“The general public is entreated to treat the statement from Nana Akomea with the contempt is deserves and disregard same,” the stated noted.
