Suspended member of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Stephen Atubiga has resigned from the party effective May 20, 2021.
Atubiga claimed his decision to pull out has become necessary, albeit a difficult move.
A copy of a letter signed by the suspended NDC member communicating his resignation said:”The NDC party that I have believed in since growing up, worked for and supported for the past 29years has been a blessing and a privilege to me and my family.
It continued: “Resigning from the NDC is one of the most difficult decisions I have ever taken in my life. But sometimes in a man’s life, one must take a firm stand and bite the bullet in the interest of so many cogent reasons.
Per the letter sighted by Kasapafmonline.com, Atubiga has also pulled along other sympathizers aligned to his principles and course to form a new political party.
“I carefully consulted with some disappointed, demoralized, sidelined and disillusioned key stakeholders, cadres,foot-soldiers, opinion leaders and we have collectively decided to split from the NDC to form another Social Democratic Party in furtherance of the true ideology of the late President Jerry John Rawlings and his principles of probity and accountability which the current NDC party has departed from years ago.”
According to him, a copy of his official resignation letter from the NDC will be delivered to the party leadership today at the NDC headquarters.
Stephen Atubiga recently faced the party’s disciplinary committee over his sins against some bigwigs of the party.
Stephen Atubiga was suspended for attacking the NDC’s Campaign Manager for the 2020 election Prof. Joshua Alabi.
He was also on record to have said that only useless politicians retire broke; a statement the National Democratic Congress deems as against the principles on which the party was built.
