The Presidency has reiterated its warnings against the use of sirens by government officials and others in the country.

A Press statement issued by the presidency dated May 19, 2021 said:” Kindly note that the directive on the abuse of the use sirens by Ministers of State and other Government Official is still in force.”

Per the regulation, the ban on the use of Sirens affects government appointees such as Ministers and Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers and Deputy Regional Ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives [MMDCEs].

The others include CEOs of Government Agencies and officials of the Presidency unless otherwise designated.

Meanwhile, the vehicles covered by the law to use sirens include government vehicle used for official purposes by the Head of State, a police vehicle, a motor vehicle used by the Fire Service, a motor vehicle used as an ambulance by a hospital or clinic, a motor vehicle used by other recognised Government security agencies, and a bullion vehicle registered by the Licensing Authority.

“Any vehicle outside the above listed categories which is fitted with a siren or bell is thus in contravention of the Law and the operator is liable to prosecution,” the statement said.
