Roman Catholic Basic School in Atimpoku, the district capital of Asuogyaman in the Eastern Region has been closed down for a week over consistent shit bombing by unscrupulous individuals.
Teachers in the school say they will resume academic work only after raft measures are instituted by the community to permanently address the despicable act.
Kasapa News has gathered that classrooms in Atimpoku R/C school have been turned into toilet facilities by unknown persons for quite a long period.
Teachers have complained many times to the community leaders and the Ghana Education Service directorate in the District but no pragmatic measures put in place to stop the act.
The last straw that has broken the camel’s back, is last Monday shit bombing incident.
Chiefs and Elders in Atimpoku community together with the chairman of the Parent-teacher association have held a crunch meeting on the matter and agreed to a week closure of the school for the problem to be properly addressed.
The chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association, PTA, Gideon Clade, said a proposal has been made for levying parents to hire night watchmen for the school.
The Chief of Atimpoku, Kwaku Budu Akomea, also stated that community meeting will be held on Sunday for the community to discuss the enormity of the situation and its ramification on education for a lasting solution.
Open defecation is high in Atimpoku at the moment after the only public toilet facility was demolished for the construction of a new one before the end of 2019, however, the project has been abandoned.
The toilet project is among the thousands of toilet facility projects initiated by Government of Ghana in collaboration with Ghana First company limited but all abandoned at various stages of completion across the country.
