Former National Security Advisor, Brigadier Nunoo Mensah retired, has blamed the unusual serial killing of Security Personnel in the country on socio-economic hardship.
In an interview on Nkawkaw-based Agoo FM’s morning show, the ex-serviceman stated that “these do not happen at night. They happen in broad daylight. It tells us that robbers are not afraid of their doings inasmuch as they are influenced by economic hardship”.
“These persons are battling with shelter, food to eat. They are hungry and literally have no source of livelihood. These persons, when interviewed, will boldly say the truth”. This, Brigadier Nunoo describes as socio-economic hardship.
He finally advised that Government and other Stakeholder organizations should sit up and critically address issues of poverty in Ghana as a measure to combat this social canker.
Meanwhile, Former Deputy Minister For Defence, Major Derrick Oduro, maintains that “the serial killing of security personnel is not reducible to politics. The fact that people do not have sources of income, shelter, and the likes does not mean killing security personnel is an alternative”.
According to him Ghana is endowed with lands that are very good for farming practices, adding that “young Ghanaians can make it through farming rather than robbery which is pure wickedness”.
The Former Minister emphasized the good works of Ghana’s Security Personnel as a major backbone of the peace the Country is enjoying currently.
This, according to him, makes the protection of the Security personnel a priority instead of linking it to politics.
He concluded that Ghanaians should come together to ensure credible information is given to the Police in times of crises. This, he says will allow for an effective security job delivery.
