The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Hospital in Tamale has been temporarily closed down and patients asked to relocate to other facilities within the Tamale Metropolis for care.
Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the closure to ultimate106.com, disclosed that his outfit is on the hunt for the suspects who attacked health personnel at the facility.
“Authorities of the hospital reported the incident to us and we are investigating the issue to unravel the suspects who carried out the attack”, he said.
According to him, workers of the facility are worried over their safety considering how the mob descended on them last night and as a result hospital authorities have adopted this measure until the safety of its staff is guaranteed.
Angry residents numbering about 20 last night attacked the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Hospital in Tamale.
A relation of one of the patients was caught smoking cigarette at the Out Patients Department (OPD) against the directives of management who have cautioned against such acts at the facility.
When asked to leave the OPD, he got angry and refused to comply until the hospital’s security was called in to throw him out resulting in physical confrontation.
Infuriated by the action, he went home and mobilized people from his neighborhood who came to attack the hospital resulting in health workers at the facility fleeing for their safety.
Hospital authorities as at the time of going to the press were yet to officially comment on the matter after confirming the incident to ultimate1069.com.
The Tamale SDA Hospital is one of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (GHAG) hospitals which have gained public trust in terms of healthcare delivery in Tamale and its environs.
It is also one of the dedicated private hospitals that provides services to the people each time members of Ghana Medical Association (GMA) in the state-owned hospitals are on strike.
