The Finance Minister has revealed that no single Ghanaian public sector worker was laid off as the country was hit by the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He told MPs on the floor of parliament when presenting the 2022 Budget on Wednesday that government has managed to pay workers monthly from the public finances amidst the shortfall in revenue mobilization as a result of the pandemic.

He admits that despite these achievements, the President has had sleepless nights as he seeks to ease the sufferings of Ghanaians, transform the economy to create jobs and share the expected wealth across all households.

The main issue the President seeks to resolve is unemployment, Mr Ofori Atta reiterated.

“This Budget is intentional about Building a Sustainable Entrepreneurial Nation through fiscal consolidation and Job Creation. This may be an uncomfortable transition but we are a people who think deeply and we must progress and become a people who also make things for ourselves and the World. We must embrace this challenge of becoming a vibrant entrepreneurial nation,” Mr Ofori told Parliament.

He says data on the performance of the economy as at the end-September 2021 indicates that the implementation of the 2021 budget is largely on track.

The minister says a new Medium-Term National Development Policy Framework (MTNDPF), 2022- 2025 has been drafted to guide the medium-term economic recovery and transformation for the country.
