Five persons suspected to be land guards have been shot dead by Police while two others are on the run after they attempted to kill the Chief of Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, Nana Abor Atta.
The incident happened Monday, December 20, 2021, around 1:00 am.
Reports say 7 thugs with guns in a Taxi with registration number GG 3427- 21 had gone to kill the chief Nana but the Police who had gotten wind of the planned assassination laid an ambush.
Upon reaching Gomoa Fetteh Cemetery, Police officers armed with AK47 fired at them killing 5 instantly, while 2 escaped. Following their shooting, guns and bullets were retrieved from them.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Police Hospital Mortuary.
Report gathered by EIB Network Central Regional Correspondent, Yaw Boagyan revealed that there was a Chieftaincy dispute which has been settled long ago but the opposing side which was not happy with the ruling by the court attempted to get the Chief assassinated.
Investigation also revealed that this was not the first time an attempt had been made on the life of the chief.
Nana Abor Atta chief of Gomoa Fetteh who escaped death speaking in an interview with EIB Network Central Regional Correspondent, Yaw Boagyan thanked the police for a good job.
He said, the police picked intelligence on the planned assassination hence monitored the movement of the assassins and succeeded in thwarting their plan.
Meanwhile, police have promised a manhunt for those on the run and have asked residents to help arrest the criminals.
