Angry residents of Mankessim and its environs in the Central Region have descended heavily on nurses and Hospital authorities of Saint Mercy Women’s Catholic Hospital in Mankessim as the hospital is recently recording a high death rate.
According to the residents, this is a result of the negligence of some of the nurses and the hospital authorities.
Speaking in an interview with EIB Network Central Regional Correspondent Yaw Boagyan, the residents claim the health staff at the facility many of who disrespects patients don’t attach any sense of urgency to patients who need emergency healthcare when they turn up.
“The nurses are always on their phones chatting, playing games, conversing while patients are at the hospital for Medical Examination. This bad behaviour must stop,” a resident said.
They believe this has contributed to the high death rates at the hospital in recent times and have further vowed to boycott the health facility.
Meanwhile, the Administrator of Saint Mercy Woman’s Catholic Hospital Mrs. Martha Amoah admitted some bad behavior of some of her Hospital workers and has described it as a human character.
She said, enough education has been given to the hospital workers on attitudes towards work but doesn’t understand why they are still putting up bad behavior.
Mrs. Martha Amoah admitted receiving complaints about some bad conduct of some of the staff, adding that the hospital administration is investigating the complaints received from the public, adding that staff found culpable will be dealt with.
The acting Medical Director of the hospital Silas Amponsah however noted that some of the staff are very good and sometimes use their own money to buy stuff for patients on admission who have been abandoned by their families.
He blamed some of the patients for circulating bad news about the hospital and failing to equally talk about the good things done by the staff.
Silas Amponsah appealed to the public to exercise patience as management works earnestly to make things better at the hospital.
