Presidential Advisor on Corruption Daniel, Batidam says President John Mahama by sacking the Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Lauretta Lamptey, has sent the clearest signals yet that the Presidency is ready to fight corruption.

According to him, President Mahama remains committed to dealing decisively with any of his appointees who will be found culpable of engaging in any acts of corruption.

President Mahama on Wednesday dismissed the embattled C HRAJ Boss, after accepting the recommendations of a Committee set up by the Chief Justice and in accordance with Article 146(9).

The committee’s work was informed by a petition submitted to the Chief Justice. The committee concluded that Madam Lamptey was unfit to hold the position of Commissioner.

Madam Lauretta has since received her letter.

In January 2015, Lamptey was suspended by President John Mahama following the establishment of a prima facie case against her. A 5-member committee was subsequently set up to investigate complaints made against her.

This was after one Richard Nyamah, and Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyir Anoh Dompreh petitioned the President to initiate processes to remove her for spending about $180,000 on rent.

She was alleged to have spent about GHC182,000 to renovate her official residence.

Her duties have since been taken over Deputy Commissioner Richard Quayson.

Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, Thursday, Mr Batidam stated that President Mahama had to hasten slowly in taking a decision on the CHRAJ Boss, in order to allow the due process to be exhausted.

“When this saga begun most people were jumping the gun saying the President should remove her from office and that her actions were unacceptable, immoral and all that… but once the due process has been followed and it has now been established that there has been some wrongdoing, the President will always act and act in record time. She cannot be said to be a scape goat, not as far as being given the opportunity to defend herself. The President will ensure that nobody gets away with wrongdoing without being punished.”

Mr Batidam added that the case of the CHRAJ Boss is one of several governmental actions and initiatives ongoing to fight corruption in the system.
